Women count! (I did!)

38% of New Democratic Party candidates this election are women.
31% of Bloc Quebecois candidates this election are women.
26% of Liberal Party candidates this election are women.
24% of Green Party candidatse this election are women.
11% of ReformaTory candidates this election are women.

Okay, I didn't really count. I called them all and asked them.

That'd be a fun one to ask the Conscareatives.

What I'd be interested to see is how the winnable vs./competitive vs. no hope gender analysis of parties and ridings breaks down.

Unfortunately I doubt such analysis exists :(

By my count there's about 13 winnable seats where women are running for the NDP (All [4] current MP's, Marilyn Churley, Olivia Chow, Chris Charlton, Irene Mathyssen, Susan Barclay, Nettie Wiebe, Mary Woo Sims, Penny Priddy, Denise Savoie). Of course, winnable is relative, and I don't think the NDP is likely to make many gains.

vs how many men in winnable ridings, though? That's where I think the numbers get really dismal :(

Oh, I agree! I meant my post more as a "There's only 13 winnable ridings running women, booooo" rather than "Hey! There's 13 winnable ridings running women!"
I'd say there are about 30 winnable ridings running men.
Just to be clear, "winnable" means absolute best possible result in the present context with favourable developments. I do not think the NDP will win anywhere near 44* seats.

*I would also like to clarify I think Dawn Black and Catherine Bell probably have better chances than Irene Mathyssen. I don't think London-Fanshawe is winnable anymore.

i heard someone from the NDP say they had nearly 40% yesterday. "nearly 40%" sounds so much better than 38%! i now it's much better than the others, but still deplorable!

rwanda has a government that is 50% women!
