Vanity!

overdrawn
I am forcing myself into grownup habits this week. It's really easy to lean on Jairus all the time, because he's always doing things like driving me on all of my errands and making me eat meals and stuff. But he's away in Montreal and Ottawa for the next few days, and I've been on my own. I miss him, of course, but I'm feeling good about the fact that in his absence I have been doing things like stocking up on TTC tokens, buying groceries, cooking meals, and making social plans with friends. I think fairly recently what I would have done instead would be staying up until 4am watching What Not To Wear on Youtube while surfing Facebook on my phone, alternating between eating these chips and spoonsful of Nutella.

I wish foresight and self-care were more intuitive for me, but I'm glad that I am at least developing the skill of being able to say to myself "Okay, I know you don't want to go out into the cold and get subway tokens and bread, but you do want to be able to eat, right? And get to work? Then hop to it, missy!"

Also!

I got my hair all cut off!

I have the same problem with self-care being non-intuitive. It can be an embarrassing subject to ask others for advice on. There was quite a lot of stuff my parents didn't teach me; I guess they assumed I'd just pick it up!

I love your new hair cut, and you have the most lovely eyes :)

You look fantastic.

Being a grown-up is such a pain in the ass.

Pretty!

I am glad to know that it is not just me who struggles with being a grown up and taking care of myself.

Dude, I’m right there with you. I’d imagine it’s probably part-and-parcel with my computer-programming ways. A lot of the culture of programming is a loose meritocracy, where it doesn’t matter whether you shaved recently (case most thoroughly in point: Richard Stallman, the father of the Free Software Foundation), but by the quality of your ideas and your work.

Your hair is awesome, I might add. Suits you quite well!
