TWO BALCONIES

overdrawn
So I am moving to a new apartment, did you know? That is the logical outcome of the eviction that I mentioned in a recent entry, but the happy ending is that (thanks toanne_t_social) I am moving into a great place. Right now it is like I have a crush on my apartment because I don't know it very well but I still want to talk about it all the time.

Here are some things about my new apartment!
+ It is in Dovercourt Park, a neighbourhood I LOVE.
+ It is a really pleasant half hour walk to Jairus's, and there are a million great places to meet on the way.
- There isn't a separate bedroom.
+ The cute little kitchen IS separate.
+ It is a 600 square foot studio space.
+ It's an attic and the ceiling is SO lovely and high in the middle.
+ There is SO MUCH natural light.
+ THERE ARE TWO BALCONIES.
+ I think the cats will be able to go on one of the balconies
+ There is a GIANT windowseat. I have dreamed of a windowseat since forever.
+ It's not a basement!!
+ There is SO. MUCH. STORAGE.
+ The landlords are SO nice and they have pets and don't care that I do, too.
+ There is a shared backyard that I can hulahoop in.
+ I am buying a bunch of the previous tenant's furniture so I don't even have to move big heavy things up the stairs!
+ At $875, it's well under what I'd budgeted for.
- There isn't laundry.
+ With what I am saving in rent, I'll be able to drop off and pick up my laundry like a princess.
+ Maybe I will get a little wagon for this errand.

Basically the space just FEELS good.  Most of all, I feel like I will make a lot of art in this apartment. I don't know if it's because it's like a sunny treehouse, or because Anne's friend who is moving out (how I got the apartment!) is a composer and a conductor, or because it's such a big space that I feel like I'll be able to have perma-stations-of-creativity set up (like, music supplies in one nook, and a big table for crafts), but I've been looking at these little writing shacks and daydreaming and I feel so optimistic it's a bit embarassing.

I move in at the end of September!

That's right by me too! I walk my dog around here all the time! Sounds dreamy:) Super happy for you, and delighted the world has one less basement dweller.

You can stay in it when you come visit if you want, and I can stay at Jairus's OR we can have a sleepover! Whichever works! But it's super close to the art show venue.

Whatever you feel most comfortable with! Let me know what kinds of crafts you want to make and I can pack supplies! Are you going to come to the art show?

I dream about writing sheds all the time too. One day I am going to build one and stick Nic in it all day.

I am also psyched for you. I live on sunlight (YMMV) so the thought of basement apartments is not soothing to me. Attic all the way! Also 600sf is a lot of room! Also I feel there are all kinds of room dividers and neat things that would fit with your cyber-boho-eco-modern sensibilities!

I find this comment comforting! Because every so often I'm like "WAUGH am I moving into a tiny room?!?" But I feel like you know your square footage.

My 2bed old apartment with Alice was about 600 sf. Cut up into fairly small rooms mind you. My friend's junior studio condo (sleeping nook, separate kitchen) is roomy for one at about 450 sf. Now she's living there with a stuff-intensive boyfriend, very tight.

I'm thinking you could do something with stolmen tension posts from IKEA or maybe something like this: http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/products/60075295/

It is TOTALLY like a sunny treehouse - this is the perfect description for it!

We are going to find you SO MANY cute room dividers!

sounds great! sooooo glad this has worked out for you. btw, i'm the type of person who believes that things happen for a reason, and that good things will happen to good people, and lo! the universe provides! and of course, friends in cool places.

good news about a smaller home: less cleaning! huzzah!

and i've always loved the idea of a window seat to curl up with a good book in. so happy for you! please post pics when you can!

alrighty, imma exceed my exclamation point allotment for the day on this one post, so will go now.

Less cleaning is a TOTAL benefit, I forgot about that! I lived in a studio apartment in NYC and it forced me to be less of a packrat, which was a good thing.

Oh, this sounds like a very good and positive thing. A literal change of scenery and a breath of fresh air. Please post pics if you are comfortable doing so once you get all settled in. I love looking at people's spaces without trying to be all voyeuristic about it.
